Is 150/90 really high?

I went to the doc about a week ago because I woke up dizzy. He checked my blood pressure which was around 150/90 at the time (subsequent visits showed about the same). He thought the dizziness was from that and prescribed me Norvasc, along with some diet mods.

My question is should I be really worried about 150/90? Would this really be high enough to cause dizziness?

Re: Is 150/90 really high?

Hi,

I will talk from my personal experience and from what other people have said. 150/90 is high and you should concentrate on lowerring it. First of all, are you overweight? do you have any other health conditions? how old are you? do you exercise? what about your salt intake and takeaway food?

All those questions are very important and your answers will help other people to help you. Waiting for your reply.
Good luck,
Michael

150/90 is high, but not high enough to cause dizziness.

Blood Pressure can vary widely during the day and night. Do you know if your 150/90 reading was your average blood pressure for the day, your lowest pressure of the day or your highest? Of course, I don't expect you to know the answer to this question. I just asked it to give you something to think about.

During your problems with dizziness, did you experience any heart palpitations?

Were you experiencing an increase in allergy problems that day? That could influence both blood pressure and dizziness.

When you experienced the dizziness, your blood pressure could have been much higher than 150/90. The dizziness could have been a result of the high blood pressure, even at 150/90, in combination with the causes of the increased blood pressure.

Re: Is 150/90 really high?

Hey guys, thanks for the responses.

I'm a 33 year old male. I'm not overweight (170 lb 5'11''), but I've lost about 5 -10 lbs in the last month. I do excercise about 3 - 4 time a week. Until recently I did eat a lot of salt.

I don't know my average blood pressure throughout the day. All of my readings have come once a day. Doctor's office readings and even the one's at the pharamcy on those automated machines show on average about 150/90, sometimes higher.

The dizziness wasn't associated with any palpitations or allergies that I'm aware of. Even the last two days I've been feeling a little lightheaded, not bad but just sort of in the background.

I'll just continue to eat better and take the meds. I really want to get this BP thing under control. I'm not as young as I used to be!

Anyway thanks again for the responses, and hello to all as I'm new to the boards.

Re: Is 150/90 really high?

Another suggestion, eat according to the DASH diet. Simplified it is tons of fruits and vegetables. That has helped me a lot.
