Hello, I am so thankful to find this site. My BP has been high for years and I have had a lot of side effects. I have been on a lot of meds but they quit working or the side effects were too bad. I am currently on 100 mg of Toprol XL, 320mg diolvan, 20mg furosemide and 15mg minoxidil. I occasionally flare up to 150/160 systolic and have been as low as 89systolic 42distolic yesterday. (go figure). The last side effect and the one I am upset over is I think from the minoxidil. I am growing a beard. My grandchildren will think I am a werewolf. This combination of medicine seems to work better than those taken in the past although I have doubts about the diovan, I don't think it's working anymore. I am very depressed as there seems no end to this. Any advise from anyone would be greatly appreciated

Wow those are some very severe flucuations in numbers. I wonder if all those bp meds are not acutally fighting against each other..........

Have you tried to use natural aids to help lower and regulate your pressure such as certain foods, and herbs? I've literally found that cinnamon helps lower pressure. 1/2 teaspoon a day. Garlic pills will also provide some assistance.

I will try the breathing exercise. I am to the point where I will try anything if could avoid changing meds again. I'll let you know. You people are so kind. I didn't think anyone would answer. Thank you.

Minoxidil was ORIGINALLY designed as a BP medication but they found it grew hair on bald men.
Thus it REALLY isn't a good choice for women, who usually don't find extra hair growth a "plus."

Ask your doctor for a sustitute.
