Morning vs. Evening Blood Pressure

I am a 45 year-old male with a moderate case of high blood pressure. I take 50 mg Metoprolol twice a day and a 5/20 mg Lotrel once a day. My evening blood pressure can actually be quite low (last night at about 9:00 it was 119/60). But here's my question. I know in general blood pressure is higher in the morning, as the body is waking itself up. This morning (about 7:00) my blood pressure was 141/83, which I know isn't really that bad, but is that a normal (acceptable) reading for that time of day and the circumstances?

Anyone have an opinion?

Re: Morning vs. Evening Blood Pressure

141/83 is a not-so-bad morning rise. This rise usually happens immediately upon awakening, as the body secretes extra adrenaline to "get going" again after sleep.

My BP remains high right after I wake up for about 30 minutes. After one or two hours, it is usually low in the morning, and tends to rise through the day.

I have concentrated my meds to the evening hours because of this, it helps me to keep it "smooth" - I think I am at a later stage than you, my BP is higher.
