Another reason for High b/p - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

The doctors are treating my high blood pressure, but are now looking into what is causing it. 2 doctors suggested I see an endocrinologist. I went today. They suspect it could be Cushings Syndrome, or another problem with my adrenal glands. Just throwing this out there for a little more info. as to what may be causing our blood pressures to be so high. It never hurts to be informed.

Thanks for sharing, Angellite. It's important to know what causes the high blood pressure, if possible, because ignoring the cause only results in more health problems. Yes, I know that the cause of the majority of hbp is "unknown" but a possible cause should be investigated and not just treated.

Angel - I answered another post of yours about hormones causing BP issues. They may be checking you for a pheochromocytoma. This is a mass on the adrenal gland that secretes hormones and causes high BP spikes. I thought that was the problem I was having too as my dad had a pheo removed 30 years ago. I've had all kinds of tests for that and it has been ruled out. And now that my thyroid has been regulated my BP has stablilized. Good Luck!

I agree with Bethsheba; the possible cause should be investigated IF there's an indication of an underlying condition. With so many people having hypertension, putting everyone through a battery of tests would not be cost-effective when only a small fraction of BP patients have a secondary hypertention.

It's comforting to get a little support and also get the information that we get from sharing. I've done a lot more research after reading these posts.
