BP dropping too fast?

Ok, I've gone from paranoid about high BP to this: a month ago, my BP readings were in the 150s/90s.

This just the last week (all taken same time)

5/8 120/74
5/9 124/73
5/10 119/75
5/12 116/76
5/13 113/72
5/14 111/65

I've been eating healthy, exercising, taking supplements, etc. But this seems VERY weird. Is this rapid fall normal or is something else going on here?

acp,

your numbers are excellent! I can see why you're wondering what's going on. You don't want them to get much lower, right?

Unfortunately I have no insight to offer, as I am still trying to find a pattern in order to begin understanding mine!

Why don't you try taking readings twice a day (same time) or more, and see how they compare? If your readings were done first thing in the morning, your BP would have been at its lowest. Your measurements have been pretty consistent. My numbers vary so much I think I'll NEVER get used to it. No wonder it drives me crazy! For instance, this past week on two consecutive days, first thing in the morning, I had 108/76, 119/85. The following two days, same time: 157/96, 146/92. It goes up, it goes down. No consistency at all!

After that last reading of 111/65, I re-tested 20 minutes later: 131/73. Then 20 minutes later 142/73!

I think, and HOPE this was an anxiety spike, but it makes me feel like all this good progress was an illusion...

Re: BP dropping too fast?

Are you taking it in the exact same position and situation every day?

Re: BP dropping too fast?

acp,

Since blood pressure fluctuates so much, that's the reason it is so important to take a month's worth of readings (or more) and average them out. It is only this RELAXED AVERAGE that is our true "blood pressure" and only this average should be used in any decisions about whether and how to treat it.

The nature of blood pressure is to change according to the body's needs at any given moment.

Re: BP dropping too fast?

I generally take it between 3:30 and 4:40 pm every day. When I started in March, I had horrible cuff anxiety, so it was rare for a reading to go below the 130s/80s.

I finally got used to the cuff, and that plus my regimen I THINK led me to the numbers under 120/80.

But then my brain played a nasty trick on me. With the first reading yesterday of 111/65, I started second guessing. What if its dropping too fast? What if I'm taking the reading wrong? What if my machine is innacurate?

With these thoughts, I took the BP again 10 minutes later and it was 131/70 (something).

Then I ran out and bought a SECOND Omron and came home and chekced again and that's when I got the number in the 140s/70s.

I don't know what's going on...if cuff anxiety is back (for no good reason) or what.
