It's not high blood pressure YET, it's high normal reading. You need to take several readings, at morning - evening and night, for a week to know your average blood pressure.
Good luck

Wink Re: what is normal blood pressure for a 44 yr old?

Around 130/80 bpm is the recomended BP if you are diabetic and 140/80 bpm if not or there abouts. Your lower reading of 90 is abit high which is the heart at rest reading, so when you are sat still your heart is working bit harder this can be stress?? take it again when you have been sat quiet for at least 10 minutes it may be lower then but the top reading is spot on my friend. no worries i am sure i am a rapid response nurse.

That is not a bad reading at all for a 44 year old. Agreed...take readings over a few weeks or months. If anxiety is a problem and taking readings stresses you out, do NOT take them every day...twice a week is just fine.

Re: what is normal blood pressure for a 44 yr old?

You're bound to see a bit of an increase starting around your age. You shouldn't be too concerned about the numbers themselves, within reason. It's an increase you need to be concerned about. "Normal" blood pressure can be all over the place depending on time of day, activities, stress levels, medications you may be taking...

Try to get a general baseline at the same time of day and at rest. If that is 128/90, or even more, I don't see a problem if you're healthy otherwise. And remember it's generally the systolic, the first figure, that's more important as you get older.

But like I said, don't worry so much about the actual number. Establish your baseline and then start to worry only if you see a sustained increase from that level.
