Re: Flowergirl & Dr's appointment

Hi,

I cannot complain. I am told I am doing great and everything looks good. I will admit that's exactly what I wanted to hear. My hip is still bothering me. I guess I'd better get used to it. My meds don't need to be adjusted. I hope the blood pressure stays where it is right now. It always seems to follow the same pattern, absolutely perfect for a while, then it starts to creep up slowly but surely until my medication is increased. Right now it's behaving. Of course it was elevated at the doctors' office. I am being sent to a another doctor to deal with the stomach stuff. The medication I am on for that does not seem to be helping. I really really hate this. I don't know how people cope with having the reflux. Maybe the hernia makes it worse. I hope I won't get a choking fit tonight at the party with everyone there. I just wish it would go away.
With the appointment out of the way, I can now concentrate on my work and get ready for the holidays. I want to do some baking after all. I don't have to see my regular doctor until after New Year.

I would like to find out how much fructose from fruit is considered too much. I talked to my friend last night. Her dietitian warned her not to eat too much fruit because her glucose levels were too high already. Apparently, two oranges or apples can cause a glucose spike. I was surprised she seemed to know so much about this since she does not have diabetes. I thought I could eat as much fruit as I wanted to, the more the better. Wrong. I think it's time to learn about the glycemic index and low GI diet. Geez. My days are too short!
I hope you are doing well and remain pain-free. I wish the same to your daughter.

Re: Flowergirl & Dr's appointment

Thanks for the good wishes. Since you are a baker, can you tell me how to prevent oatmeal cookies from browning on the bottom too much without being under done on the top?

I usually only have two servings of fruit because of the sugar & I get a little gasey from fruit. There was a great article about GI prevention problems in either Prevention or Reader's digest recently.
One thing I was surprised to read was that it is best to drink one's fluid before eating to decrease bloating/gas. I remember my daughter coming home from school to tell me that her teacher said not to drink fluids while eating (part of the 7th day adventish health teachings). Perhaps it helps digestion by preventing the stomach acid from being diluted.

Also, I've been trying to chew 20 times with each bite & find it helps my stomach issues. When I recently visited my grandchildren, we were working on their counting so we counted steps etc & even how many times we chewed. They ate up their veggies so they would have to count more. Fam

Re: Flowergirl & Dr's appointment

Hi,

thank you for the helpful tips. Drinking water prior to and during the meal prevents us from eating too much and helps digestion and the kidneys.
I had plenty of water last night before and during the Christmas dinner at the party and only 1/2 plate of food, mostly veggies. I chose several strawberries for desert. I feel I did really well.

Would you believe I woke up this morning with another chest rash? This one is not bad at all, just a few areas of inflamed skin over the chest & upper abdomen. I am getting a little tired of these rashes. Too bad they don't have anti-rash pills for us to take!

The book about hypertension I mentioned is the very best I've seen and definitely worth the cost. I am so glad I have it! The next one on my wish list is the Color atlas of skin problems you suggested. Seems like it will come in handy.
As for the baking - ovens generate and distribute heat in different ways. Using lower heat than recommended often works. Moving the racks does also. I hope you'll get it just right before burning too many batches of cookies.

Re: Flowergirl & Dr's appointment

So glad your b/p is okay for Christmas.

When you have time, could you tell me how subjects are covered in your new b/p book. I still haven't order that $75 one. Oh, & what is the name of the book?

I have been doing so much reading for my daughter whose due date is this week. One Dr. wants to do a C-section because she had probably with the first delivery-there are so many issues. We've been on the phone a lot discussing the pro's & con's. I wish this could have been taken care of earlier as we're down to the wire now.

Thanks for the baking tips. I better pick up a new oven thermometer just to be sure.

Sounds like you did pretty well at the party. Fam
