Hey Zuzu,
First let me comment on this:
The way I see it is that if your pressure is in the new "prehypertension" range, it it still "normal" but not "optimal"...and that we should no longer be complacent simply taking meds but incorporate more lifestyle changes into our lives...reduce salt intake, regular exercise, lose weight etc.
Basically the report is saying that if, let's say, your BP is 130/82, the doc should no longer say, "perfect"....but instead ask us to be more vigilent with our lifestyle choices, to help bring the #s down further if possible.
It would not necessarily entail upping the drugs.
Zuzu,
I totally agree with what you are saying here. I always agree on lifestyle changes and trying to make a good thing better. I am a true testiment of that theory.
My genetics are such that my mom and my grandmom and my great grandmom have had high BP and my grandmom has had high cholesterol. In fact the docs told my grandmom that she manufactured LDLs in her body..she was a skinny little cute woman who could run circles around any young person that I know but yet she was saddled with these ailments.
Now you have me, an athlete at the age of 44 who eats nothing but salmon, and most fish and some chicken, veggies, and fruit but yet I have high BP, and now to find out today from my doc that I have high LDLs. He also said that my LIFESTYLE which you mentioned has helped me immensely. My HDLs which are the good cholesterol are very high as well (75). In a nutshell if it wasn't for my good healthy living I might be in a grave by now.
I was very frustrated at first to hear that I would have any issues but I guess considering my genetic background I should consider myself lucky.
Now for the last part of your question. I went to the docs today and the scanning results of the heart monitor are still not back but my bloodwork says that I have the high LDLs..he gave me Zetia. I will give it a try to see if it brings it down. He is very happy with my BP and told me that after my physical I am healthy as an Oxe so to speak. He also said I was the picture of health. I was very happy to hear that.
My BP was 130/88. I said that's good? he said yes it is great. I said what about those new studies. He poo pooed them..All I know is Zuzu I feel great and that is all that matters..sorry for the novel ..love, Lisa
