Post Top vs Bottom Number

I monitor my blood pressure at home at it seems that my top number is usually much higher than my bottom number. For example the average top reading is 130-140 over 60-70. What does this mean?

Top number is diastolic & your # is borderline hypertension. The bottom # is systolic or resting heart rate & is good. BP fluctuates a lot during the day so don't stress.

Actually it is the other way around. Systolic is the top number, which is the heart during contraction. Diastolic is the bottom number, heart during relaxation or filling. If your numbers are at 140/90 or higher consistently then you are considered to have high blood pressure. Many things can increase blood pressure...stress, foods, sodas, medicine, exercise.

Add visits to the doctors to the list, as well as alcohol & smoking.
