Unhappy It is me again bee

I think that i am going to really go out of my mind! I mentioned in my other post that the dr. figured that my blood pressure was high due to hyperthyroidism at least she figured(and me too)as this can elevate a persons blood pressure. I went in to see her today to ask some questions that I didn't ask durring the last visit just to keep informed and to tell her about my eye problems from the last 4 to 5 months, she has this blood pressure machine that takes your blood pressure and pulse...she hooks it up and it runs about every 3 minutes and her assistant writes down the numbers etc, this is done for 6 readings. I had watched t.v and relaxed for 40 minutes just thinking about questions to ask etc...no big deal or stress on my part (at least i didn't find it stressfull)then the receptionist said for me to go in the room just to see how my blood pressure is doing as the dr. wants to keep it monitored....I thought ok....my blood pressure has been up for the last 3 years so I just proceeded with the routine....My first reading was 179/126....i thought it has never been that high before....160/110 but never has it been the 179/126 anyhow I can't remember the rest of the top numbers but for the 6 readings and overall average my blood pressure was 160 something over 105 , plus the readings she had from the previous visit.....so now I am going friday for my ecg(ekg) and more blood work...she made it quite clear that it was crucial that i go by friday to see if any damage has been done to my heart as I should be on blood pressure pills immediately but she can't do that until i have the ecg(ekg)
I am 38 years old , not obese , run out of breath just climbing the stairs, Oh.....and I am a stay at home mom since moving to a french speaking province I have not worked for the last 1 1/2 years so no stress at work, I am retaining my fluid ( forgot to mention and show the dr.)just above my ankles swell so that the skin is almost hanging over my socks, my shoulders and arms from the elbows up hurt so bad that i can almost cry out in pain (the dr.thinks that is tendonistus , not sure of the spelling)but i do not do hard physical activity,my eyes either dart back and forth so i have to focus and also I will be looking at something and get a white patch over my eye (it is like looking through a window with thick white plastic over it) and i cannot see anything except the white unles i look else where(down or to the side) then i can see...and the same goes for if i am looking down and the white patch comes if i look up or sideways i can see.....it is only in my right eye , so now i have to see an eye specialist. I feel like I am falling apart....the eyes, pain in both arms, out of breath climbing stairs started within the last 4 to 5 months..
My husband is going on course for 3 weeks...he is getting me an emergency number in case I need someone as We have no family or close friends here.. I will be alone when i get the results back....My dr. already told me not to bother calling her office for the results that her office will be calling me to come in as soon as the reports come back to go over the results and get me on medication . I hope that is all it turns out to be , but my blood pressure has been high now for too long and heart disease runs on both sides of my family...my mothers is on heart pills and on my fathers side is a nightmare.
Thanks for listening ,

HI there is a start for everyone..irrespective of the tests..control your BP work with your dr and go on a good exercise program that suits ur condition..and you can undo the damage and give your body time to rebuild itself..watch your diet..it needs a lot of commitment but once when u are at it u can easily go through with ti..God be with you..

bee,

First: RELAX

OK,
Here's how that first workup should go.
1. Doctor should determine heart size and function....so ECG monitor and maybe an echocardiogram or just a chest x-ray.
2. Check kidney function for damage which can either cause or be caused by HBP. So the routine is like a weeks urine gathering to measure 2 products, vanillamandelic acid and something called 5-HIAA (for HBP inducing tumors...one with the tongue twisting name pheochomocytoma)
3. Checking the retina for signs of blown little arterioles

Probably all will be well and you will get a diuretic. If edema like you have in your legs is marked it will raise your BP a LOT. A couple days of diuretics and you'll see the swelling go down and a big BP fall.

See, no reason to panic!

Good Luck.

Thank-you so much, I am feeling better reading the posts......I am trying to relax and I am feeling better since I posted the other night.I went for the ecg today and I think I will be ok , like you said I am going to have to start relaxing. The nurse who did my ecg today even told me durring the test to relax, thought i was but when I reread my post it is like WOW...big time stressed out. just before she finished the test she asked me how old I was I thought that was odd but my hubby said that she had to write that down or maybe program that into the machine?....Again i am going to relax...lol. The dr. told me as soon as she gets the test result back, her office will call me to go right in so I can get on those blood pressure pills....gosh...I really can't wait I do not like pills but hey, to get rid of the fluid and to have peace of mind I will take them.
Thanks again for showing such wonderful kindness and I will post again when I see the dr.let you know how my heart is and I will probably have more questions regarding the meds
