BP meds and sexual side effects - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

My doc just put me on Lisinopril 20 mg this week and already I'm noticing some disturbing sexual side effects. I'm in a bit of a drought so I'm not with anyone right now. I've noticed things aren't quite the same <removed>.

I've been dreading going on BP meds for a while now because I have heard they can have this effect. I 'm wondering since I've only been on it for three days if the medication is something that my body will get used to and these side effects will go away or if this is just the beginning of something I definitely don't want to be dealing with. How long should I wait before I ask my doc to get me on something else. And if I choose that route, what are the BP meds that have the least sexual side effects for males? <removed>

A friend of mine is on Lotrel and he said he has no side effects except for occasional muscle pain. Is Lotrel a good alternative? I'm a 38 yr old male, before meds BP range was 135-150/85-100. I see my doc again in 2 weeks so any advice would be much appreciated!

How about starting on Lasix instead?

HCTZ might be a good if you aren't allergic to Sulfa. I would get the pill form & start with a 1/4 of a tablet to see if that was enough. If not you can add another 1/4 of a table. This way you won't take more than you need. Also, you can drop it right away without withdrawal symptoms. Fam

I believe all HBP meds. have sexual side effects. All blood pressure medications affect our Adrenalin in some way. The only medications which (have been more researched) and appear to be more neutral, are some of the ARB's, such as COZAAR, DIOVAN, ATACAND and BENICAR and 2 Beta Blockers (BISOPROLOL and BYSTOLIC). From what I've read, the SYSTOLIC (top number of blood pressure) has the strongest relation to men's sexual function. The lower the number the harder to crank up the erector set. Other factors (of course) can also have negative effects such as; High Cholesterol (Low HDL), Diabetes, Alcholol, Smoking, Anxiety etc. If you combine all of these these things (regardless of medication) be prepared to Shutdown your love-life.
