Didn't get with the doctor....what should I do ?

Hey,

I just realized it was after 12:00pm and the doctor's office is closed now and won't be able to speak with her until Monday.

I lowered my Toprol XL to 25 mg (from 50mg which I've been on for 4 years) three days ago. I have had no problems and my BP has been fine.

This morning (8:00am) 115/59 pulse 64.

Just checked (12:30pm) and it is 134/60 pulse 60.

Should I stay with the 25 dose until I talk with my doctor Monday or should I go back to the 50 mg dose ?

I forgot to mention I also take 12.5 mg of HTZ since 2004.

Thanks,
RW

RW,

Why do you want to go back to the 50 mg dose? Because you think a 134/60 is too high? If that's the reason, I would stay with the 25 mg dose. One reading of 134/60 is usually nothing to be concerned about....keep in mind, no changes, medicine or otherwise, should be based on one bp reading alone! And besides, 140/90 used to be the "normal" bp standard before someone (drug companies???) decided to lower the standards.

Re: Didn't get with the doctor....what should I do ?

Hi Beths,

I don't want to go back to the higher dose and I'm not worried about the 130 BP because it has has been really good the past few days.

The reason I decided to drop the dose was because I was worried about the 47/ 48 diastolic readings I had been getting and also having some days where I would just be extremely tired. Which could be from the Graves meds and or both.

I'm just a little antsy about changing my dosage because I haven't talked with my doctor yet, and it's the weekend.

Just wanted some input and encouragement I guess.

Thanks

Yes, I would agree that the diastolic is too low...you should be able to call your doctors' office with concerns even when they are closed. I believe, by law, they are required to have someone on call...that is not to say that you would need to go into the office, but something like you are describing probably could be addressed on the phone. You might want to do that anyway, given how low your diastolic is...another thought would be to call your pharamcist as they should have a good idea of how to safely go about reducing/increasing the dosage.
