Do Beta-Blockers affect sexual ability? - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

I really want to know that, from people who are really married. Some say it has no effect and another say it's affecting them. I really feel a difference since I started taking Zebeta again, but I'm not married and never had sex before so I don't know much

Yes and No. I'm on the smallest dosage of metoprolol possible to be fair though. BBs side effects possibly include impotency. Absolutely no problems for me there but perhaps it's my dosage and age(34) but I have notice no change at all. :whew:

However, I have noticed that my sex drive has lessened to some degree. I can say that about all of my emotions and urges though. The drug has a calming affect and it's something you just need to fight.

I'm planning on being more physically active to promote testosterone production and perhaps it will bring back my drive as well.

Well, obvioulsy any side effects depend on the person, but for me beta blockers did. I was on inderal for about 6 years and never had a problem. But a few months ago I started having noticeable changes and difficulties performing that I hadn't experienced before. I went to the Dr. and switched to a different class of drug and I have noticed definite improvement. My Dr. said the issues I had were most likely from the beta blocker. They also ran tests and everything else (testosterone etc.) was normal. If it's a major issue I would talk to your Dr. because once you start having problems, it's easy to psych yourself out which only makes things worse.

Also, I weaned off the inderal for 4-5 weeks under the guidance of my Dr. It takes a while to get off a beta blocker. Don't stop cold turkey, it is dangerous and will only make you feel worse.
