Spikes In My Pressure

I am not on blood pressure medication since my readings usually fall in the normal range. However, on occassion I have been having spikes with numbers in the range of 180/110. Of course it varies but the spikes are there. I wake up with excellent readings. Only take my bp after that when I feel I'm at high levels. I do have anxiety issues and wondering if this is the reason for my spikes. Anyway, if readings are for the most part normal, would it be necessary to be on medication for this purpose....spikes. I find when I do spike, I take small piece of xanax and the pressure comes down.
I would hate to go the blood pressure med. route as there are so many side effects and I'm not good with pills. Is this high blood pressure in the text book sense of the word, when you get elevated levels on occassion? Curious. Of course, I know I could ask my physician..........but they are so bent on medication I hesitate........so i put this out to the good people on this board.

Just curious to know how you know/feel when you have spikes?

Re: Spikes In My Pressure

Somehow I just have a weird feeling that goes through me. Maybe it's nervousness or I feel warmer. Or my heart starts to race a bit. That's how I know my pressure is elevated.
