Many BP medications will bring a significant drop in in your readings within hours of taking them. That leads to the process, over time, whereby your Dr. would titrate the dose to meet a desired result.
Perhaps before continuing on a regimen of meds, you might want to get a home monitor and take your BP 3 times a day for a couple of weeks and see if there is any sort of trend.
I would check though, if it's safe to abruptly halt the medication you are presently taking.
