I recently ran across a paper/study that suggested that alcohol consumption can raise diastolic in women. I think it was more or less saying if you drink too much, it can raise your diastolic. I have no idea the time frame or amount of drinks, but it was performed on a group of abstinent women, women who drank some and women who were known alcoholics. The alcohlic women had higher diastolic averages. I do recall that they said the diastolic numbers returned to normal within 4 days of abstaining, which I thought was interesting.
I will say that my blood pressure is much better when I completely abstain from alcohol. While my numbers are ok (as long as I'm not at the doctor

they are great, when I don't have a drop. I had more than a few glasses of wine over a few days last week and found my BP in the 120/85 range for 2-3 days. My numbers are back to 105/75 the last few though, so I found it to be an interesting theory
(I am in no way implying you may have a problem with drink, just thought I'd share something I recently ran across)
ETA: I just realized you are a guy, so I have no idea if there could be a correllation at all.
