Sudden drop in BP

A week ago I thought I over medicated myself with BP medication because my with meds is usually 120-130 /80-low90. A week ago it just dropped to 103/70 even with heavy activity. I sat down and it dropped even lower to 90's/65. I stopped taking BP meds and my bp has been staying low, not as low but lower than when I was on medication. top number usually 120's.. the bottom number will go 80 to upper 90's.

What could cause such a sudden drop?

Re: Sudden drop in BP

I suffer from Low Blood Pressure. When I get light headed and things seem to be going in another direction..I've checked and have had a reading of 85/58..a friend told me to drink Gatorade (yuck). Could be a bit of dehydration. Check with Dr. if you don't feel well; I wouldn't recommend stopping meds if they are required. Hope you're feeling better.

Re: Sudden drop in BP

Drinking 16 oz of any kind of fluid in a 15 min time period will raise one's b/p 20 points for two hrs. That's what I had to do when my b/p dropped. Fam

Re: Sudden drop in BP

well I guess I am more concerned why it's dropped and steady without meds. right now my BP is better without meds than it was with. This all happened in one day where it dropped very low, it has come back up but pretty much perfect BP. One would normally think this is a good thing, but I do have high BP. a year ago at this time I had 191/110. we had a hard time getting the pressure to come down for months and even with all the meds I was on it was never great. Now all the sudden it's within normal range after a big drop last week?

I left a message with my cardio, have not heard back yet.

Re: Sudden drop in BP

I believe that happened to FG too except she still had to remain on meds. But her meds were cut down I believe.

I can't think of anything that would cause a drop in b/p like that. But maybe you have stumbled on the cure for high b/p. . Please let us know what you find out.

How do you feel? Fam

Re: Sudden drop in BP

I feel ok, actually it's going back up now. no big surprise! was at doctors today and they got 152/92 Sheeesh I wish I did have a cure for hypertension.

I have to have a CT scan saturday but because I had a reaction to the ciontrast dye last time I have to be pre medicated. 2 benedryl the night before and prednisone and then 2 more benedryl that morning and 2 more predisone. I am going to be loopy. lol

Re: Sudden drop in BP

damn! talk about a high rebound. I can't wait to see what amazingly high numbers i achieve when i go to see my nephrologist this Monday. I hate that feeling , i'll get such nice and low numbers, then i'll get a high spike out of nowhere, then i start worrying again lol. Seems like you get the high spikes too Flutter. Oh wait, aren't you in the same boat as me in regards to the doctors think you might have a pheochromacytoma? I find out Monday if i need to have the CT scan done.

I find it weird though that we have to take our meds even if our BP is already low. Like today i took my BP before taking my med and it's 116/63. Whats the point of even taking something if it's thats low already?

Re: Sudden drop in BP

Flutter,

I'm allergic to the dye in HCTZ which is yellow dye #6 AL. You need to be cautious trying different meds because you might be allergic to other drugs too. Fam
