I am healthy 32yo man with a BP normally of 118/65 (ish). Yesterday i see this dot of distortion in my vision that appears to be on the left of both eyes. Later it seems like it may have only been the left eye, but i could swear it was both for a bit, in the same spot for both. Not a mirror image, both in the left peripheral vision. The dot grew, in the shape of a C, moved to the left, and eventually cleared. It looked a little like white noise on a TV screen. It was a blind spot wherever it moved. Right after that, i feel a little faint/dizzy. A little scared too, perhaps panic. I check my BP right away and see its spiked at 152/92. I dont have a history of high BP. An hour later i feel OK with a mild headache left over. I call a friend who gives me a couple Altace 10mg capsules. I take one last night and one today. BP is back down, but im left with a mild headache that pounds when i cough or sneeze. Im worried about what the vision was - in my eye or my brain. I plan to see a doc but not till tomoro, its sunday and hard to get a doc around here. Any input is appreciated!

sounds like migraine "the eye thing " or floaters in your eyes harmless bits of eye waste when they pass in front of the seeing bit of the eye it distorts the vision for a few seconds ...as for you b.p it most likely shot up because of anxiety mines does with anxiety ..but hey your doing the right thing checking it out with the doctor ..
oh and your b.p spike is high but not that high ive seen mine a lot worse as long as it comes down thats the main thing

I've been getting that same exact thing for MANY years. It is called a Migraine Aura. In my case, I get the Aura without a Migraine Headache. Before I get mine, I have problems focusing my eyes, so I know when one is coming on. I call it my Xmas lights. It takes all shapes, but the most common is a "C".
From what I have read...... as long as the "C", is in both eyes, it is not usually serious. If the vision disturbance is only in one eye, then there is the possibility of a more serious eye problem. At any rate, except for the infrequent annoyance, and focus problems, it hasn't caused me any serious problems.
I've had that!!! Scariest thing ever, isn't it? I thought it was a stroke because I lost my immediate line of vision - like I couldn't read a book, but I could see all the way around it. It eventually moved into the periphreal of my vision and looked like broken zig-zags in a kaliediscope. Like you it was gone in an hour and left me with a mild headache (plus major fatigue).
I would guess your BP was up because that is some freaky deaky stuff! I had it happen twice. I've heard others say they tend to get theirs after being in really bright light - or having to look at a white background with lots of lights during the day. For me, I think it was a MAJOR over-prescription on new glasses I had gotten a week before. Of course, my opthamologist swore it was my nursing hormones, but I haven't had one since he corrected the over-prescription.
I pretty much diagnosed myself, but my eye doctor agreed that mine was an ocular migraine. There are some nifty renditions out there. Funny thing is that it's actually quite pretty - and amazing that my body could put on such a light show for me. Too bad I can't enjoy it from all the freaking out that ensues!
wow do we all have eye problems or what? i actually have a weird sensation in my right eye, it's not like regular floaters, but a blur when i pan across from right to left while looking at a bright light. looks like a cloud/ aura that floats across my field of vision. I have it all the time though and only in my right eye. seemed to start when i first started taking my beta blockers.
Went to a ophthalmologist over it and got a real thorough eye check. He even checked the back of my eyes and since i take beta blockers checked the blood vessels and none were broken. Said he couldn't find anything wrong with my eyes, so i have no clue what it is! Even took x-ray things and i saw the back of my eyes and the optic nervs, it was freaky.
Don't say it's a tumor and get my hypochondria going!!
What some of you guys are describing sounds like scotoma though! It was brought to my attention when i posted on the eye and vision board on here. Thought maybe thats what i had had but eye doc said it wasn't.
You guys should get to an ophthalmologist though, not a regular optometrist, for a good eye exam, especially since most of you have blood pressure problems. Good idea to see if any damage is done to the vessels in your eyes, since they are the weakest and usually first to go in people with hypertension.
