I've been taking 5 mg Lisinopril for a few months now and I don't really think I needed it to begin with. My bp tends to go up when anxious, but that is all. My kidneys are spilling trace amounts of protein and my doctors thought that may be the cause. But anyways, on Friday, my bp was 110/60. Every time it has been taken in the past couple months it has been on the lower side of normal even when I'm really anxious. Do you think that it would be okay to ask my doctor if I can go off it? I'm 23 years old, I don't want to be taking so many frickin pills.

Are you worried about rebound high BP though once getting off? Thats good yours stays so low even when anxious, mine doesn't. So it's hard to tell if my BP meds are actually working, or if i'm just super calm when i take it at home. I gave up trying to find out, i just pop my pill and feel safer knowing i should be somewhat protected, cause god forbid doctors give people with anxiety induced high BP anxiety medication! They dont' feel safe giving out benzos, but they don't mind messing with the mechanics of ones heart and giving a 20 year old beta blockers.

your BP is lower because you are on medication. it most likely will return to normal after going off. if it was high before, there is a good chance it will be high with no medication

Unless you get your anxiety under control, or have it under control. That could be why it stays low now to begin with, and even though you feel anxious you have no real physical symptoms and just the ones in your brain.

But isn't 5 mg a really low dose? Does 5 mg really make that much of a difference? I've also been diagnosed with sleep apnea and am using a CPAP now which I was told could lower my bp...

I dont know. seems like a low dose to me. My mother in law had a BP of 220/120 and she is on 5mg of the same med as you are and it's controlling her blood pressure really well.

When I was taking medication my doctor said if she saw a BP reading of 110/70 with medication, she'd would take me off meds altogether. So yes, I'd certainly ask your GP could you do the same.
