I've been on 25mg HCTZ for about 5 months now. Its controlling my bp decently (avg 125/85), but I feel like its dependant a lot on how much water I drink. I have had no problems with any urinary tract infections on this medicine and I have been urinating much more frequently. I did want to mention that for the first month or so I was on the med I had an increased heart rate. It would be anywhere from 90bpm to 120bpm. I went to the doc about it and he said, "Oh that isnt a side effect of HCTZ." And then after that it kinda went away. My heart rate averages about 80 now. So I dont know if I just got used to the drug or what.
