Question Anyone get to the point you were able to reduce their BP meds?

Has anyone gotten your health under control enough that you were able to reduce your high blood pressure medications?

I've had HBP for about 5 years. Even on meds, I still averaged in the 140's/90's. I've been on Dyazide and Norvasc 2.5 for a few years now. I had some unrelated surgery last October and since then I've averaged a BP around 110's/ 60's. I haven't figured out the connection with the surgery and lower BP, but I'm not going to argue. I'm assuming it has something to do with my body having less stress from the other medical issue.

I'm due for a yearly physical in a month or so. I plan to ask my doctor about the lower BP. I'm wondering if it may actually be a possibility that I could go off of the Norvasc at some point. I know it is a low dosage and I went on it at a point when the Dyazide wasn't controlling things by itself. Has anyone had success in reducing their PB meds? Am I fooling myself to think that it may eventually be possible to reduce my meds? When I went on the meds, I always assumed it was for life.

Re: Anyone get to the point you were able to reduce their BP meds?

I'm off medication at the moment. My doctor said if I got a reading (on medication) of 110/70, she'd take me off medication altogether.

If you keep getting readings that good, I'd certainly mention it to your GP.

I was in shock when I was diagnosed as hypertensive, but I was determined to do all I could to reduce my BP naturally. For the moment, I've managed to do this.

Good luck!

if your BP is 110/60 then you should continue with medication. That is ideal BP. I think if you go off your BP will shoot up again.

I was on four different blood pressure meds, including a Diuretic, an Ace Inhibitor and a Calcium Channel Blocker, plus Pravachol for my high Cholesterol.

Through a daily program of exercise; small serving, frequent feeding diet; and avoiding the things that negatively effected my blood pressure, heart rhythm, breathing and other health problems, I've been able to reduce down to just one blood pressure medication, Coreg.

Recently, I've increased the serving size and calories of my diet, and have seen a corresponding increase in my blood pressure. Then, I increased the servings size some more, and not only experienced another increase in my blood pressure, but also an increase in my blood sugar.

So...... now I'm having an issue of self control. I was on a very strict diet since 2004, and stayed with it religiously, BUT....... I am really enjoying the increased eating and snacking.

To me, a healthy diet is the best medication that one can take to improve one's health. But it is just so hard to do.
