Toprol XL = muscle weakness? - High & Low Blood Pressure Message Board

Hello! My doctor recently started me on Toprol XL for high bp, high heart rate and migraines. I'm only on 12.5 mg. The first couple days I felt awesome...then I started noticing my arms and legs get weak really quickly when doing any type of work around the house or walking quickly through a grocery store, etc. Then my legs and arms feel wobbly for a while until after I rest a bit. This causes me quite a bit of anxiety, which already is a problem for me. Otherwise, my heart rate is down, bp is down and I have not had 1 migraine since starting it 2 weeks ago.

So my question is...Is muscle weakness a normal side effect of Toprol XL and if so, is it something I'm just going to have to live with or will it go away as my body adjusts to it?

I've seen so many horror stories in searching on the internet about Toprol, so I'm really hoping to hear something good!

I have been using this for about 2 months. I was on another beta blocker for 5 years prior to this, so far I haven't had any of the symptoms that you describe. I have read that because it slows your heart rate down, when you do physical exertion you can feel a little light headed and weakness. Maybe when you get used to the medication these symptom will go away.
