Does Sotalol combine with other drugs?

Dear all,

I have been on the Beta Blocker Sotalol for arrythmia (high pulse rate) for about six months. It has dramatically reduced my pulse rate but my blood pressure is still high (146/94). What can the doctors do? I want to stay on the drug since without it my pulse rate may rocket. Cna it be combined safely with other blood pressure medication?

Re: Does Sotalol combine with other drugs?

Hi there jh,
Didn't you post this same question a couple of days ago, or was that not you?

Anyway, Sotolol can be taken with other drugs- it just depends on your individual situation. One of the mainstays of hypertension therapy are the diuretics and they are often added with beta blockers. Cheap and effective in lowing BP.
This is a question for your doc, who knows your arrythmia and blood pressure history better than we do here on the boards.
146/94 is not dangerously high (over the short term) but it does look like you need something added to bring it down to normal.

However, the good news is that there are many choices of meds out there that can work in tandem with Sotolol.

Good luck,

zuzu
P.S. Ask your doctor if adding the diuretic hydrochlorthiazide (HCTZ) would be a good option for you.
