What do the instructions, that came with your blood pressure gauge, say about taking your blood pressure lying down?

When you are lying down your heart does not have to work as hard to pump blood around your body. It could also be that when your are lying down, your are more relaxed and have lower blood pressure. Most home blood pressure monitors, require you to be sitting up to get the most accurate reading.

yeah you are just more relaxed. i notice that too...but if you sit around and get really relaxed it should be pretty low as well. i can 105/50 lying down, but 125/80 sitting up...you should also have your arm at heart level...my doc actually holds my arm parallel to floor and cradles it against his side when he checks it...i always notice it's a little lower when arm is higher. also, bp should always be checked on left arm since heart is closer to that side of body.

speaking of which...try holding your arm straight up in the air and check it...if you want to see a really low reading. i guess it's because blood flow is running out of arm and heart isn't pumping as much...who knows...i can get a 90/48 and i'm a big fatty.

Re: BLOOD PRESSURE HIGHER SITTING UP AND LOW WHEN i LIE DOWN

The most effective information regarding your blood pressure is to take it with the same machine, the same way each time. BP is always changing, so you are looking for the average.
