Unable to see main renal artery

I am undergoing testing to try and get to the root of my high blood pressure, and the latest test that I had was a renal artery ultrasound to see if perhaps I had stenosis. The report came back saying that they were unable to see the main renal artery on the right side, but since the smaller arteries were 'clean' there was no evidence of stenosis. My questions are; what would be the reason they were unable to see the main renal artery, and given that, how can they conclude that I don't have renal artery stenosis. Has anyone else experienced this and been given an explanation?

Re: Unable to see main renal artery

I am supposed to be tested for that, I finally decided it wasn't worth the headache. I been through so much testing. Why do they think you have renal artery stenosis?

Re: Unable to see main renal artery

There's a number of reason they think I might have renal stenosis - first and foremost, I have carotid stenosis (>50% right, <50% left), and carotid stenosis is apparently secondary to stenosis elsewhere.
Another reason is my high blood pressure, which has been pretty hard to control. I take three bp meds - Atacand, Amiloride HCTZ, and have been on a beta blocker at times, and nitro patch at times. All three combined and my bp still runs high. I also have very erratic major spikes in my bp (200/120, etc). I guess they are just trying to rule in/out causes of my high bp?!

Re: Unable to see main renal artery

Maybe they figure since your other arteries are fine you are getting enough blood to your kidneys, but I would definatly ask why they are ignoring the main artery. Seems odd to me.
