do BP meds raise triglyceride levels ??

Anyone have any knowledge of wether or not your triglyceride levels can be raised by being on beta blockers or ace inhibitors ?>
Mine have doubled since I went on these 2 meds in October. This even though I started dieting and lost 20 pounds since then.

Re: do BP meds raise triglyceride levels ??

I am 25 years old and on Ziac (a beta blocker). I have always had good cholesterol. My physical of 99 it was 168. I then started taking Ziac in January 2000, and my cholesterol for my phsical in September was 220. I exercise 5 times a week and I am thin. My triglycerides went from 70 to 100 and my LDL went from 100 to 131. I truly think there is a connection. I also found a website once saying you should tell your doc. if you are taking betablockers before they administer the cholesterol test. It didn't say why. Maybe if you take them before the test it affects the readings.

I never mentioned it to my doctor though. I will the next time i get checked.

Re: do BP meds raise triglyceride levels ??

Just remember that risks from cholesterol and triglyceride levels are measured in ratios of one to the other, not the absolute levels. Don't ask me the formulae but you need to know your HDL too and high TG's aren't necessarily bad. Runners often hiave high levels of TG's. Wouldn't do for me to tell you anyway as we measure in different units over here. Try posing the question to one of the appropriate forums (forae??)
