Is there a correlation between pain and BP?

ABSOLUTELY!! If this is acute pain (serious, one-time) then the BP measurement should allow for this. It will most likely reduce as you receive pain relief. If you are in chronic (severe) pain, talk to the doctor to make an informed decision. If he/she blows you off--get more opinions.

If you constantly run high--whether due to chronic pain or not--you still run the risk of damage.

I also think any pain will amke your BP go up. I know if myself or hubby aren't feeling well, or have a headache, our BP is much higher than normal. I went to the ER a few years ago when my pressure was always very low, 116-122/70-75, and due to the sinus infection I had it was 150/100. As soon as the infection was gone and I felt better it went right back down to the normal low readings. They even said it was probably due to the severe headache and sore throat I had.
