Newbie! Anyone on Diovan?

Hello! I'm new here and this is my very first post on this BB.

I was at the doc's this morning and he prescribed me Diovan 160mg for treatment of high blood pressure. 1 capsule per day in the morning. Has anyone had any symptoms/side effects from this med? I'm currently on Effexor XR for my IBS D and depression. I was assured by my doc and CVS Pharmacy that there are no known drug interactions between the two meds. Any feedback would be grateful. Thanks! <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">

Re: Newbie! Anyone on Diovan?

Hello John,

I have been on Diovan 160mg for 10 months. My doctor
told me it had the least side effects of any hbp pill.
I have done great on it. I also take Zoloft for panic
attacks and Claritin for allergies. No problem with
any interactions between the drugs.

Re: Newbie! Anyone on Diovan?

Thanks for your reply. So far,so good. No drug interaction either and no side effects. As to my BP...it's down slightly. I'll find out more when I visit the doc again in Sept.

Re: Newbie! Anyone on Diovan?

Hi, I have been on Diovan (80 mg) for a couple of weeks now. Previously, I was on Lopressor (100 mg) and my BP was not controlled at all--140/90+ at rest! I then went to Zestril and had too many side effects--muscle pain, weakness, fatigue. The Diovan has given me no side effects at all and I run a constant 130/80 regardless of rest or not.

I understand that the medicine can also have some positive kidney impacts--many diabetics are given it to safeguard their kidneys.

Good luck! Thank God for these life saving medications!

Re: Newbie! Anyone on Diovan?

Thanks Oncloud9 for your reply. I wish you good luck also. I too have heard that Diovan can have positive kidney impacts. I'm also on Effexor XR 75 mg/daily (an antidepressant). My BP used to be 130/80 until the last several months. Then it rose up to around 140/90. Not sure why. I know I gained 10 lbs since last Sep 00.
