By: Jay Meltzer, M.D., a Hypertension Specialist who practices in New York, for the Medical Herald... blood pressure changes significantly in response to several different biological stimuli. It varies in a fairly regular manner during the daily cycle, lowest during sleep, and rising an hour or so before waking to its highest in mid-morning.
On top of that diurnal rhythm, the activities of daily living, work, exercise, emotion, and position further influence blood pressure, as do the seasons of the year. Consequently, an individual’s pressure may move from well below to far above 140 in the same day.
