Yup..I had a terrible sinus infection about 4 years ago and had to go to the ER, and my BP was 150/100 and when I went to my own dr. 3 weeks later it was 125/75, which was normal for me. I asked him why, and he said it could have been just having to go to the ER, or alot of times if you are in pain it will shoot up. As long as it doesn't stay up then no big deal, but if continues it needs to be checked out. I know even now, if I have a bad headache or feel lousy my BP goes up till I feel better, around 138-142/85-88 and I am on Altace at the present time. Normally I run about in the 120's/70's. Hope this helps. JJ
So far I have been on it for about a year, and it has only been staying steady for a couple of months. I have to go for a checkup in Jan. so we will see what she wants to do. In the beginning, it was up and down like a yo yo, so she didn't want to mess with anything till it settled down. I actually didn't think the Altace was working the first 6 months, but I guess whatever caused my BP to go so wacky may be quieting down?
This dr. was very confused as to why I would go so quickly from a normal to below normal reading to the very high readings I was getting. It all started when I was put on cholesterol drugs in March of 2000, so we don't know it if that is the cause or what, but I do have another friend who experienced the same problem after being put on Lipitor. I have been off the cholesterol drugs for 6 months now. She has been off it for over a year and is just now starting to get her BP under control. Just a case of wait and see. Take care, and good luck. JJ
If you take decongestants (most) when you are having sinus troubles, the med itself can raise blood pressure very high in suseptible persons. I have HBP and sinus trouble and the doc insists "no decongestants at all". Very difficult. Tell your doc or pharmacist about this if you do take a med for the sinus problem.
That is very true. I forgot what they put my hubby on when he has a cold, but will ask him later. I know they tried me on Feldene for back pain and after 4 days I was very shaky and my BP went up more and more each day, so dr. said to get off it!! It took about 5 days for it to go back down to normal. Have to be careful with alot of these other drugs, as they can mess it up big time. I know for a cough, they told hubby to take Robitussin CF, as that doesn't have the PPA or whatever it is in it anymore. JJ
