My bp was around 160/100 -- through diet, exercise, low-salt diet, etc. bp was reduced. Never put on medication.
Bp has been 126/78 during visits to first doc's office 3 x's in Sept/Oct & got similar reading at machines.
Nov. went to a different doc with sinus/bad ear pain. Bp was 170/100. Said swollen sinuses putting pressure on tubes in ears. Tested various times & readings at machines were 130-135/78-83. Yesterday went back to 2nd doc for same sinus problem with horrible ear pain. Bp was 170/102.
I explained to him that my measurements at the machines had been much lower. When I don;t have the sinus infction, they have been around 130/80, but when I have this terrible sinus and ear problems, it does go up a little but not that high. He prescribed med. for hypertension. I was so sick--did not question. Only had 2 high readings there. He did not suggest diet, exercise, no salt, lowering alchol and caffeine intake -- I'm confused.
He prescribed Prinivil 20 mg. once a day. Ive been reading on internet and this has various negataive side effects.
Sounds like your BP is doing the same as mine did last year, very high, then normal, but dr. put me on BP meds. too, as it was more up than down. When your ill it will go up but it shouldn't be that high. Try the pills and see how it goes, as U may be like I was, righ on the edge of having high BP. My dr. waited 3 months for mine to go down, as I was always very low, but it kept spiking, so that is why he put me on the meds. I wouldn't rely on those machines in pharmacy's etc., but get yourself a good Omron one for home and monitor it, as I did, then you and the dr. will have a better idea what is going on. Good luck!! Hi there! I thought I would get my 2 cents-worth in about hypertension. Everyone (in my opinion) should buy a sphygmomonometer (blood pressure cuff). I bought one at Walmart for $17. and it works just fine. I took it to my doctor's office and the nurse tested it for me and she said it was giving the same readings as her office cuff. You don't REALLY know what your true blood pressure is unless you take it at home, at rest, every day. When I have a sinus infection my blood pressure is scary! At home, after sitting in a chair or lying down for 30 minutes, my blood pressure is okay. I do take Dyazide once a day. You can't go by the readings at the doctor's because it will usually be higher than if you are home. By the way, does anyone know if Dyazide will hurt my kidneys someday? Thank you.
I purchased the self inflateable Omron one, and dr. told me it was one of the best. Don't get a wrist one, as they are not very accurate at all. Maybe someone else has purchased another kind and had luck with it, so I am sure they will post for you. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif"> JJ
