I am in a really stressful situation that is going to get worse before it gets better. There is nothing I can do to change these circumstances.
My BP is usually 135 over 78....or thereabouts. I get it checked at the docs once in a while (a week ago last time when I went in for a UTI). I have a manual home monitor and it is comparable in the readings. However, today, the readings have been in the 142 over 100 range. Not much has changed it. I know this is just one day, but now I am scared.
I haven't been sleeping well and I know I am very stressed. But I don't know what to do to calm myself down! I am going overseas to face my ex in a weeks time and that is totally upsetting me. I can't change that. What can I do to stop myself having a coronary or stroke over this??? I am nopt kidding. I am only 34 and I am soooo scared.
Stop worrying! :-) I went through four years of divorce **** with my ex several years ago. There were days when my BP was off the scale and I'm still here. What yours is, is not that bad.
The best you can do is eat well, plenty of exercise - running is great for me for destressing, or punch the living daylights out of a punching bag, weight train, or if you're a quiet person, meditate. Get plenty of sleep. You will survive! Stay calm. :-) Stay happy!
Exercise (aerobic type) is one of the best stress relievers there is. Also, deep breathing exercises while you are sitting in a comfortable chair will also help. Also sitting in a comforable chair, concentrate on a different part of your body, one at a time, and try to relax that part as much as you can, for example, concentrate on your left foot to relax it as much as possible, then your left leg, etc. until you have relaxed your entire body.
Restrict salt in your diet, eat plenty of whole fruits and vegetables, and consume low fat dairy products. This is called the DASH diet for people with hypertension due to any reason.
Most of all have faith in the future rather than fear of the future. A positive mental attitude, no matter what your circumstances, can help.
WOW...I can relate to this, I was at a friends shop today and he was checking his BP and said "Why don't you check yours", I said "my BP has always been on the low side of normal but I guess it can't hurt" well after checking and re-checking I had 160/109 and pulse of 72....kinda freaked me out so I went to a local drugstore that has a monitor and it had lowered to 147/97 and the pulse was 87. So I concluded i'll monitor it over the weekend and make a appointment with a Dr. on monday. I have been a little stressed lately over the ex-wife also. I'm a single father of 2 girls ages 9 & 13, self-employed, Dating a wonderful lady and starting to plan a wedding and have a older brother sleeping on my couch but I really thought I was a laid back kind of guy until this .....oh well, we handle situations as they pop-up <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif">
