Meds

I am taking 10 mg ziac and 10 mg Norvasc, the Norvasc appears to have some undesirable effects on me, the worst is affecting my sleep, I wake up maybe 3-4 times each night. Can anyone tell me what Norvasc is supposed to do, also has anyone else had any side effects to Norvasc and lastly is there any alternative to Norvasc? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Re: Meds

Norvasc is a calcium channel blocker, it affects your peripheral blood circulation. I had no trouble with it as far as sleep went but I had lead legs when running. There are alternatives - I am now on irbesarten which is relatively new and an angiotension II inhibitor (I think). Its going well for me.

You can find lists of drugs and their side effects on several sites eg www.rxlist.com. Keep hassling your doctor till you find the right mix.

Re: Meds

Speedgal, I can identify with your description of "lead legs" when running and taking Norvasc. How much do you run? I go to my doctor next week and I will talk to him about switching to irbesarten.

Re: Meds

Hi there,

I'm currently running 50-60 kms a week training for the City to Surf (Perth). Back then I was probably averaging more like 25-30.
