High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

I am a married 48 year old female. Was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol 3 years ago. I use to be vey active and was very social. Approximately 1 1/2 years ago I had my first spell. They use to be every other month, then as time went on, they got closer together. My spells hit very quick and subside pretty quickly once I sit down and rest. My spell symptoms start as feeling very jittery and weak, progress into very warm sensation thru upper body, extreme light headed and feels like I have alot of pressure in my head and basically I feel absolutely terrible. My blood pressure will rise very high, usually 175/100 or higher, my heart rate will spike to 135 or a little higher. These spells always happen after standing or walking for around 15 or 20 and very rarely happen when I am just sitting there. I need to sit down because I feel as if I am going to pass out. After 15 minutes of rest, I start to feel completely normal again except tired. They thought it was my heart, but I have had every test you can think of, including they implanted a reveal monitor into my chest.(24/7 EKG reading) When I have these symptoms, I start the monitor and then the doctor will read them. My heart rythem is perfect. The only other things that I have going on are that my renin(not renal) levels were very high and I have two swollen lymph nodes in front and back of neck, the one on back of neck has been there for 2 years, and the one in front has been there for about a year. They have not changed in size, but sometimes they hurt. Doctor said not to worry about them. They have also ruled out anxiety. They are at a loss and so am I, any help would be appreciated.

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

What medications are you on for your BP? Do a search on Connís syndrome to see if anything fits some of your symptoms.

Good luck...JJ...

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

Any possibility that you are having a seizure during these spells?

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

Hi dcooper,
Did you actually have one of these episodes while you were on the 24/7 monitor?

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

No, I am completely aware of what is happening to me. My son in law has seizures, he doesn't know what is going on at the time.

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

Yes, I have had 2. Both times they read my monitor, heart rate increases to around 135 to 155, but the heart rythm always shows normal. The doctors say that it looks like when I have one of these spells that my heart rate shoots up and then gradually decreases, but that is all it shows.

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

They are running a test to see if it could be pheochromocytoma. Will let you know the results next week.

Re: High Blood Pressure with multiple symptoms

My test for pheo came back negative. I see a specialist tomorrow, hopefully they will be able to find out what is causing these spells.

That was one of the first test they ran, to see if I was premenopause, that test came back negative

Hi, I am a 52 year old female with many of the same symptoms that you describe I have been having these symptoms for the last 3 years. I am so fed up with the doctors going around in circles and telling me that they can not find anything! Have you found out what the problem is I would really like to know if they have diagnosed you with anything, as my doctor and myself are also at a loss. I have had almost every test known to man and nothing has showed up but I know there is defenitly something not right.
Denise
