Atenolol for 30 days

Hi, I am turning 30 this month. I went to see my dr. For edginess and anxiety. Turns out I have high BP 166/111 averaging 150/110 for the last week at least. She prescribed me Atenolol 25MG for 30 days to immediately lower my BP and heart rate (btw thats at abt 115 all the time). I took my first pill last night. I am curious about what to expect with this medication. I tend to have high anxiety and so I HATE to take meds. bud I know I need to get my BP and HR down. We believe that this may not be a new prob. I've showed a steady incline. So I'm to take this while waiting for test results. I'm scared! I have heard great and awful things. Any thoughts?? Thank you!

Re: Atenolol for 30 days

You will probably feel great. It will lower your pulse and BP within an hour and usually makes people feel less anxious. It did for me. Good luck!

Re: Atenolol for 30 days

It's just a 30 day script...if it works well for you the doctor will call in refills. There is no point in them calling in for several months of the medication until you give it a try and see how it goes. For instance, you may need 50mg so if that is the case they will call in bigger pills for the next month, or alternatively, if it doesn't work well for you...they will probably try a different drug. I do think it will work well for you. Let us know how it goes.

Do you have a BP monitor at home to track your progress?

Re: Atenolol for 30 days

Ya I have a BP monitor at home. So I will for sure be keeping track of it. I don't know that my Dr. Plans on keeping me on meds, that's why I was asking about the 30 days. Thank you for your help and kind words.
