Blood Pressure

My blood pressure used to always be anywhere from 109 to 119/70 something. The last few times I went to the doctor it's been 130 something over 70 something. Today it was 132/72. My doctor said it was ok and we'll just keep an eye on it.

When I got home, I took my blood pressure and it was 112/72. I have an Omron HEM-780 Blood Pressure Machine. Are these machines accurate?

Could it be I was excited while at my doctor's office? I lost 12 lbs so I was excited. LOL. Plus I just walked the treadmill about 45 minutes before I got there.

I am overweight. I need to lose at least 50 lbs. Could being 50 lbs overweight have something to do with it?

Any information will be appreciated.

Thank You,

Bernice

Re: Blood Pressure

Certainly being overweight greatly increases the risk of developing high blood pressure. If your readings are indeed in the 130s, it would be in your healths best interest to lose weight...

These are regarded as accurate, but I have to tell you that I have seen more than a few of the automatics that are not accurate while in use. Im not sure what the reason is for this - perhaps were overdue for calibration. Personally, I use a manual cuff because I have demonstrated repeatedly that automatic (oscillometric) cuffs grossly under-read my systolic pressure (15 mmHg approx) vs. a manual cuff.

All the best.
