Reaction to:
Lisinopril, Norvasc, Benicar, Carvedilol, Metoprolol. Currently taking Ameloride (no real reaction), Tekturna (did nothing for my blood pressure after taking it for 4 weeks) and Catapres (making me sick with joint pain, dry mouth and swelling). Anybody have any suggestions?

Lord, you sound like me. I have lost count of all the medication I have tried - Lisinopril, Bystolic, Benicar, Diovan, Losartan, Norvasc, Plendil, Micardis, Clonidine, etc. I even tried Atacand, and it made me ill. Right now, I am on Avapro and it makes me feel spacey, have weird head pressure, and I have a headache that never goes away. So frustrating because my BP looks great on 100MG of Avapro.
To date, I have only tolerated Toprol XL 50mg, but that dose does not control my blood pressure, and it gives me a little trouble with my asthma sporadically (that is the ONLY side effect), and Tekturna. Tekturna 150mg quit working, moved to 300mg, and it made me tired and still didn't work. Further, it has now been pulled from the market. At the end of the day, it's a crap shoot - you just have to keep trying medications until you find one you like.
Personally, I decided to exhaust all the medications in one class and then move on to the next. Right now, I have tried every single ARB available and had problems with them all. I am going to revisit Losartan and Micardis, however, before giving up. Maybe even Diovan too. I really think ARBs are fantastic if you can find one that you can deal with.

I am overweight by 60 pounds and only exercise once a week by going dancing and dancing rigorously. How 'bout you? And thanks for your reply. It's a bummer to have to go through all of this.
I would be interested in knowing the symptoms you had with the various drugs. Right now, the Clonidine patch is making me sleepy and has intensified the already existing joint pain especially in my knees. I feel disabled and have trouble standing and walking. At night, the joint pain is unbearable. I have to take ibuprofen which raises your blood pressure.
I've only taken Benicar. One side effect is i've gained 25-30 lbs and can't get rid of it even with diet and exercise. Another is my dystolic is too low. like 58-60 and the systolic is still a wildcard it still spikes up every now and then.
