New Here with HCTZ Question
This is my first post, so I apologize if I'm asking something that has already been answered or is in the wrong place.
I'm a 35 year old woman who suffered pulmonary edema after having severe preeclampsia with my daughter 5 months ago. A week after delivery by c-section, I was readmitted to the hospital with severely high blood pressure and given Lasix through an IV. I don't know the dosage, but they told me that it was the maximum they could give me before I actually started urinating frequently - and 5 days later I was dismissed after losing 30 pounds.
A little less than 2 months ago I started gaining 2-3 pounds/week and retaining a lot of fluid again - up nearly 20 lbs in less than 2 months, and my BP this past week was 180/102 and 160/101 and my appointment. I am currently awaiting the results of blood-work, but have been given a RX for 12.5 of HCTZ to take daily. I have taken this in the past, but did not have any improvements and quit taking after a few weeks.
I have been taking it for 5 days now, and although I am down 3-4 lbs, I really do not have any increased urination that I have noticed. I've never actually taken a "water pill" that makes me pee any more than usual.
Is this common? I feel like I should have increased urination, but I don't. I laugh at the warning that says not to take after 6pm due to not being able to sleep because of it.
Why am I not peeing? Is it possible that it just doesn't work on me??
Re: New Here with HCTZ Question
In other words, is it possible for HCTZ to NOT cause increased urination?
