Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

The other day I was sick and had to go to doctor to get thyroid, iron tested. Nurse said my bloodpressure was 190/110. Then they checked it after resting a bit and it dropped to 160/90 or so. Doc gives me a script for Amylodipine in which I am scared to take.

I get home checked it with my sunmark omron pump up digital and it was 140/90. After resting about 10 mins in goes down to the 120s/80s range.

That morning I had two cups of coffee, bowl of cereal and 1000mcgs of vitamin C.

Could anxiety cause my BP to rise so much? Or was it the vitamin C?

Re: Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

My blood pressure is normally about 106/66 pulse 54 at rest. Every time I go to the doctors it is about 145/90.
So Yes!

Re: Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

Thank you. I found out that my thyroid was low which was causing horrible anxiety also. She only wanted to watch TSH but that is wrong. So I told the NP that my Ft4 was a bit low and have been feeling very tired. Too bad had to beg her to raise my levothyroxine but it was worth it.

Re: Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

I recommend checking your BP at home for awhile to make sure that you dont have elevated BP.

Re: Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

Thank you I check it everyday. When first sitting down it is 140/90 or 150/90. After resting only a few minutes it goes down to 120/80 or close to it. So it has improved after being on more levothyroxine for a few weeks. Yippee!! anxiety is improving also.

I am writing it down to show my NP. Using a manual veridian bloodpressure cuff. don't trust digitals.

Re: Is this whitecoat hypertension maybe?

I have white coat syndrome and even at the docs it is not to high about 138/76 but at home it is always in the 115/68 to 120/ 74 range I am on 5mg of lisinpril but sometimes at home when I'm not under stress it will be quite low..the doc wants me to go on a higher dose but when i do that then my home readings are to low. I also took my blood pressure machine in to the docs and it is the same as theirs...so we have to be careful about letting them put us on to much medicine if you have white coat symdrome. because its not good to have really low blood pressure also.
