| | Much lower diastolic blood pressure in right arm
I am a 59 year old male and have been on 5mg of Amlodipine for high BP for the last 9 months . This has been effective and reduced my BP and I stopped taking any readings a few months ago. However, in anticipation of seeing the nurse in January to review my medication I restarted taking BP readings a week ago .
My first readings using my right arm were around 135/63 and was wondering if I now had low blood pressure !
I then started taking the readings on my right arm also and these were around 140/80.
I take these readings at the same time and after a few days the pattern is that the readings on my left arm are consistently higher my right. Whilst the systolic is only a few mm Hg's lower, the diastolic is much lower-sometimes over 20 mm Hg's. The other issue is the absolute level of diastolic pressure ,have had a reading of only 50 in my right arm.
Do not know what to make of this . I am quite fit and go to the gym 3/4 times a week . The only different behaviour is that my right arm and shoulder are very sore from several days of chopping out a tree root.
Should I seek a consultation with doctor immediately or just mention my concern to the nurse when I see her in a couple of weeks time?
Can anyone help?
All a worry...
