144/74 doctor said normal?

Hi,
I have been to see an endocrinologist a couple of weeks ago, he took my blood pressure of 144/74 and said that was comletely normal, so I googled it lastnight and thats on the high side. how can he say its normal if its not?

Also looking through older GP records my doctor took my BP a year ago and recorded it as 650, im not sure what that means?

Thanks

Re: 144/74 doctor said normal?

It may be on the high side of normal but I wouldn't worry about it. If it was taken before you had been sitting and resting for 10 minutes, then it definitely isn't a problem. Resting bp's are closest to your normal reading. Try taking it under those conditions and see where it is. I personally wouldn't worry about it.

Re: 144/74 doctor said normal?

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.
My blood pressure drops when I stand... read on..

I had been sitting in the endo office for 30min before the pressure test talking to him about my symptoms.

The reason I went to the endocrinologist was because for the last 8 years I have been feeling a bit strange, foggy head, slight tremors, I get confused hard to focus and concentrate, fatigued, I get really irritable at times. I seem to get a feeling of low blood sugar when hungry (but not always when hungry) sometimes food doesnt help. I ended up getting myself a blood glucose meter to see what my blood sugar was like when I was feeling that way. It was never low around the 100range. An hour after eating sometimes it would get up over 140 but seem to settle back down an hour or so after that. So that ruled out low blood sugar.

I ended up buying a blood pressure meter the same day I posted the first post, as I got home to do the first test my heart was pounding as I do worry a low and was worried what the reading would be, first reading was 129/75, second reading few min later went up to 150/80, my heart was at 130BPM, its hard to get a good reading cause as soon as I think about doing it I can feel the worry setting in. but if Im really calm I can get it to around 130/72. I just did a reading a few min ago, straight after sitting down I got 144/75, then 160/90, then I waited a few min and did it again I got 137/70, I then stood up and tested again I got 118/65 I have noticed that the numbers do drop after standing, yesterday It dropped 15points after standing, today 19 points.

I do worry a lot and am pretty stressed with getting my business up an running.

Im 30 year old male, tall slim.

Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with me?

I'd take it when you first wake up. that's the best indication of what it really is. And thinking about it can raise it - white coat syndrome. I think it all loooks fine.

Fluctuating Blood pressure. 98/60 to 168/98

Fluctuating Blood pressure.
I have been seeing a specialist regarding my blood pressure to determine if I even actually have High blood pressure. My family Doctor put me on BP meds because I was constantly 140/90-ish in her office (When no Doctor in the room with me I was 116/82). I went to the specialist who has weaned me off the meds and monitor regularly to see how I do. In the morning I have 120/80, but my mid afternoon I am ULTA sensitive to Fluctuations. I was out shopping after a full day at work and stopped by a drugstore and took my BP and it was 168/98. I decided to wait a few min calm down a bit and take it again, sure enough 131/90 (a bit better). By the time I got home it was back to 120/80. And in the evening around bedtime itís 98/60. My question is, is it safe to go from 98/60 all the way to 168/98. I know my doctor has said as long as it doesnít stay that high its okay. But Iíve never known anyone to have such a big fluctuation and it makes me nervous. Any thoughts? (not to mention if I even have one glass of wine it's skyrocket!)
