The DNA-PCR test is VERY sensative, in fact it is soooo sensative that False Positives happen some of the time. That's why it is not a great diagnostic tool. I've seen guys get a positive PCR with a thousand or so copies and test out conclusively negative for MONTHS after, but have a hard time believing their negative results because of the false positive PCR.
If you get back your test and it is around 2000 copies/mL (or less) then it is considered negative. Early HIV infection would be in the hundred of thousands of copies.
Symtoms present of absent can not be used for HIV detection. Only a test can be used to know your status.
