Exclamation PCR Viral load test

I took the PCR viral load test today (42 days after exposure). I couldn't wait, not knowing was eating at me. I find out tuesday. Something about the lab not being in service until monday.

The only real symtoms i had were..

Mouth Ulcers (herpangina), Swollen glands, and severe depression.

Anyway, does anyone know about this test? It may have many different names as i am realizing all test do.

Any info would help me out a lot.

Re: PCR Viral load test

Scott,

The DNA-PCR test is VERY sensative, in fact it is soooo sensative that False Positives happen some of the time. That's why it is not a great diagnostic tool. I've seen guys get a positive PCR with a thousand or so copies and test out conclusively negative for MONTHS after, but have a hard time believing their negative results because of the false positive PCR.

If you get back your test and it is around 2000 copies/mL (or less) then it is considered negative. Early HIV infection would be in the hundred of thousands of copies.

Symtoms present of absent can not be used for HIV detection. Only a test can be used to know your status.

Best of Luck, let us know!

D.
