9 week test, accuracy?

Hello everyone,
I had a quick question, My doctor recently had and hiv 1 and 2 test done on my per my request. I have no clue what type of test was done but she infomed me it was normal, the test was done 9 weeks after my possible exposure, and i plan to go back in 3 weeks.
I was wondering how much confort i can find in a 9 week normal hiv test, also at 12 weeks if i'm ok (which i pray for) can i consider that definte?

please advise
Thank you everyone

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

I believe 95% of people who test negative before the window period are negative at the three and six month mark....Ghost knows more about this, and hopefully he'll be around, but for the most part, a 9 week negative is VERY VERY reassuring, regardless of the exact statistics

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

I tested negative at 18 days after exposure and then I retested after 6 months and it was still negative.

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

Thank you everyone for your reply's
I guess i'm wondering how many people would have shown to be hiv positive by 9 weeks, in order to see how much peace of mind (for now) i can find in that test.
i am having my final test in 9 days, but i'm very freaked out lately
any information would be really helpful. I know at 6 weeks the majority of people show, but what about 9 weeks?

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

From all the reading I have done all elisa tests done after 6 weeks put you over the 90% mark also Testing Centers in Massachusetts use the 6 week mark as conclusive with a standard elisa antibody test, please check out this link.

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

A 3 month test is 90 to 95% accurate and a 6 month test is 99.9% accurate .
9 weeks means you're still in you're window period and seems hopeful but definately get a 12 week test just to put you're mind to rest .
In good health .............

Re: 9 week test, accuracy?

I'm guessing most likely everything will be okay. Think of the final test not as an indicator of your status, but a confirmation of your negative, which 95% of people get...that's a WHOLE lot of people...we're with you the whole way
