Post How many people have HIV???

My boyfriend and I have been having sex, somtimes unprotected because I trust him. We've been going out for about 2 months before we had sex. He is my first intimate boyfriend, I am only 17 by the way, and he said hes been with only 3 other girls. He is 20.

OK the REAL question is what are the odd of getting HIV? Percentage wise? Is there really a large percentage of people with HIV in the US?

Current estimates from the CDC estimate there are about 800,000 to 900,000 people in the US infected with HIV. That's out of a population of around 285,000,000 (according to the latest census).

That means your chances of getting HIV are low, but not nonexistant! It's best to always play it safe and use a condom.

Hi, Jul. Please, stop having unprotected sex! Do not EVER engage in sex without using a condom! You don't want to be a mother so young in life, do you? If your boyfriend has had 3 other sex pardners, you basically are sleeping with them as well as your boyfriend, when you have unprotected sex. You could contract so many sexual diseases...plus bring upon your shoulders the heartache of bringing a child into this world, whose parents aren't ready to become parents...or undergo an abortion; something that you'll have to live with the rest of your life. Most of this heart ache falls upon the shoulders of the woman. Don't let this happen to you. Be smart...look out for yourself...Deb47

i'm not sure of the % chance exactly, but i know theres a good enough chance. i have NEVER known anyone personally with hiv/aids, but i had always heard something like 1 in every 15 or 20 people you meet carries the hiv virus. still to this day i do not know how reliable that is, but i do know that whatever the percentages are, theres a good enough chance it can happen. my mom has been dating a guy for almost 2 years, and back about 6 months ago he got into this "cheating" stage. as far as we know he had only slept with 3 or 4 different women. back some months ago my mom had a hiv test done and was negative, this past week she had to get another one because she was scheduled for a surgery and they needed bloodwork done. none of us even thought twice, she had just been negative..... well this time she wasn't, she came up positive. we are waiting for the results of her 2nd test and praying it will show she is negative, but the odds don't look good. it just goes to show it doesn't matter how many partners someone has, the chances are still there. my moms boyfriend knew all the women he'd slept with, and has known them for years.... guess he wasn't thinking about their sexual partners. i guess my whole point is this..... there is no guarantee that just because someone has had 1 partner and someone else has had 500 partners that the chance of catching any type of disease is any different from the other. i hope i am making some sort of sense, i know what i want to say but my head is so full right now i don't know if i'm making sense trying to explain it. i have been with the same man for over 3 years now, and we have been having unprotected sex for years now, but now that my moms test has come back positive it has effected me and my fiances sex life. besides me having no desire for sex now, i also look at how stupid i was risking my own life. please just be careful and use protection. after you guys have been together for a year or so get tested, if its clean and yall are faithful, then consider unprotected sex. sorry for the rambling, and sorry if i made little sense, i just have alot on my mind. good luck, and God bless.
