I read about a case where a gay man with gingivitis contracted HIV through giving oral sex. Cuts or sores in the mouth increase the risk. But only a few oral infections have been reported, and the risk, given present data, seems so small as to be merely theoretical. Still, it's possible to get herpes in your mouth or on your tonsils. As long as you're careful about who you swallow (or spit - getting it in your mouth isn't going to 100% safe), you'll most likely be fine.
