and thank God she is negative. apparently the first test did give a false positive. the western blot showed no signs of the virus in her body. thank you all who kept us in your thoughts, and in your prayers. God bless!

That's great to hear. You must be so relieved. I just hope my test is negative in three months...

Well I am very glad to hear that as well. I was actually very surprised that someone's mother could have been infected with HIV somehow in old age (assuming she is >40).

Could you make it clear whether they did a second ELISA test on her that turned out to be negative, or they pronounced her negative solely on the basis of the negative Western Blot?

And also, did the doctors have an explanation for why the first (and only?) ELISA was a false positive?

jen1080... i will keep you in my prayers that your test will be negative, and that while your waiting you can have peace of mind. i'm sure everything will be fine, but i will say prayers for you while you wait.

sibelius... they just told hr the western blot came out negative. they still fel that she has to be positive because of her first test results, so now she has to go back in for another blood test (i forget the name of it though). they said based on the results of this next test they will know if she is positive or negative. my mom and her boyfriend went to the clinic last week (after her results came in positive) and had bloodwork done there. there results came in also and said they were both negative. the doctor from the original test believes whole heartedly my mom has to be positive, so we're truely praying after this next test comes back negative they can offer some explanation as to why the first test was positive.
