Should I get tested? All opinions appreciated. - HIV Prevention Message Board

Ok, I know some of you will think I am stupid for some of the things I will say below, but here goes.

I have been married over two years and love my wife very much. Our sex life was very constant and she was not too much into condoms. Ok. I know wha you may be thinking. Prior to meeting my wife, I was very sexually active and although I wore the condom for intercourse, I use to perform oral sex on a lot of women and did not protect myself there. So, I was worried about my HIV status. I occasionally had unprotected intercourse as well with women who's HIV status was unknown to me.

Well, I never told my wife about my previous sex life and I know that may be unfair to her. I apologize to anyone who may get offended right here.

Well, my wife is now 3 months pregnant and the doctor gave her two HIV tests as part of the pregnancy routine and she tested negative both times. I am really happy about that.

As scared as I am to get my own HIV test and have not been tested since my crazy sex life, do you think my wife testing negative could mean that I am HIV negative as well? I am so grateful, happy and relieved that she tested this negative. However, I am still worried about me? What do you think? I know that I should take an HIV test to know for sure, but I assume that if I was HIV positive and I had unprotected sex with her, that she would become HIV + along with me. She is not and I am happy. All opinions are appreciated.

I want to add that I pray to God for forgiveness about what I did and asked for a second chance. I prayed to God almost everyday after finding out how stupid I was in the past. Some of you may not believe in God and most of you do, but I really believe in God and that God works miracles if you ask God for one and this could truly be one of the miracles God worked for me. For those of you who do not believe in God, would you say that we got lucky?

I forgot to add that I want to know if someone tests negative does it mean their spouse of sex partner are negative?It has been over two years that we started having sex. So, I think if she was positive, it would have showed up.

Congratulations on having a child, and it is wonderful that your wife tested negative for HIV/AIDS. If your wife was not into using condoms, then it is very likely she would have contracted the syndrome from you if you were positive. However, there is always a small chance that she did not get it from you if you do have it (but HIV/AIDS takes up to six months to show up on a test, so your wife is definitely alright). Since your wife tested negative I seriously doubt you have HIV, but I think that, in order to put your mind at rest, you should go and get tested. It is always better to know, no matter what the results are. Best of luck.
