Can someone give me some advice please? - HIV Prevention Message Board

Is there anyone out there that can give me some advice?? About 3 weeks ago I found out that my uncle has HIV. My father ran out on me when I was younger and my uncle has taken his place. I love him more than anything... He did not tell me that he has HIV...I found the medicine in the medicine cabinet. He hardly ever takes any medication so I decided that I would research it online. I found out that the medicine was for HIV paitents...I was devisatated....I have no idea why he never told me....I want to tell him that I know about it and that I am here for him...but I am so scared...I sent him a card that told him that I am here for him if he needs me...I never mentioned that I knew about the HIV....he never responded....but our relationship is not the same....How can I let him know that I know about the HIV and that I am here for him???

Be honest with him...take time alone with him and tell him what you know...chances are that he will appriciate your love and support.

Most people don't tell cause they are afraid of rejection. I don't think he would mind if you approach him and let him know you are there for him no matter what. I wouldn't say I was looking up his meds online. I would put it in a differnt manner...like you already knew what those meds were for. I wouldn't want him to think you were invading his privacy. Then you can give him support and make sure he takes his meds appropriately.
