Question How long exactly can you have HIV/AIDS and not know it?

I know you should take a test after 6 months of exposure...but say you didnt and the person you been with had HIV/AIDS. Say you forgot all about taking a test after months. Well its been years. When will something happen? Like whats the maximmum? Can it go up to 10 years without knowing? Thanks

Sauce: If a person has been infected with HIV, and creates antibodies to the virus (seroconvert), it does not matter how long it passes before they test (provided that is more than 13 weeks), they will test positive years after. Like on the previous thread, I mention there have been some rare cases where people test negative for years and then all of the sudden they test positive, but this is extremely rare, virtually non-existant.

Hope the info helps.
As for the fever, symptoms can't tell you a bit about HIV infection...only a test.

I don't know if there is an exact number but I have read up to 10 years but I think that is rare. I think the average might be more like 5-7 years or less. If you are concerned, get tested. don't weigh the odds on this just get tested and you will know. if it's been 10 years and you are relatively healthy just go get tested to ease your fears.

About the median life expectancy for an infected patient...the guidelines say 8-10 years before progression to AIDS (this is median, and without meds)...but there have been thousands who live well into 15 years or more without progressing, called "long-term non-progressors".
