I contracted HSV-1 from this incident. I didn't have any STDs before this happened and now I am afraid that I may have contracted HIV. I had an ELISA test performed at 5.5 weeks which came back negative. I have been having "symptoms" for about 7 weeks now (which started about 1.5-2 weeks post exposure) and I have another test scheduled for next Monday (which will be 10 weeks).

Should I be so scared of HIV infection given the risk of my possible exposure?

You would be more at risk if you performed oral sex. Your risk is extremely low. HSV is a lot more contagious then HIV. Besides your tests can be considered by many as conclusive. Still get the other test for peace of mind, but my opinion is that you will be fine!!!
